等待
曾经有一棵树，饥饿的美国诗人希薇亞·普拉斯（Sylvia Plath）看到了树枝上长满了象征她人生选择的紫色无花果。一颗无花果是飞往欧洲、另一颗是一个丈夫小孩快乐的家庭、再一颗是一位著名的博士、还有一颗是一位奧林匹克金牌女冠军，颗颗肥美多汁。在只能选择一颗无花果来充饥的情况下，她发现自己最后只能崩贵地跪坐在树下慢慢的饿死。因为她没有办法决定要哪一颗无花果。如果决定选择这颗无花果，就代表她失去了其他多汁的无花果。慢慢的，那些无花果开始生满了皱纹，渐渐地发黑，然后一颗接着一颗慢慢地掉在她的脚下。
曾经在一棵枯树下， 有两个法国流浪汉爱斯特拉冈（Estragon）和弗拉第米尔（Vladimir）正在等着一个名叫戈多 (Godot) 的人。有趣的是，他们根本不知道戈多是谁，也不清楚到底是不是真的有戈多这个人。《等待戈多》故事的最后，所谓的戈多始终没有出现。
曾经在某一颗树下，有十头牛在吃草。后来，来了二十头牛，找不到树木或灌木丛可以遮荫，于是纷纷跑到那十头牛挤着的树下。但是，树荫有限，有五头牛得不到遮荫而昏倒了。
人的大脑可容纳智慧的空间是有限的。因此很遗憾，不管我们再怎么努力，也容不下世上所有的智慧。可喜的是，在很多情况下，即使我们的大脑只有像一片枫叶大小的智慧，还是足够让我们为世界做出需多伟大的贡献。因为，智慧的力量是强而有力的。可悲的是，在很多情况下，人们擅长犹豫和等待，却不擅长善用智慧。
就像希薇亞·普拉斯、爱斯特拉冈和弗拉第米尔一样，他们没能等到他们所“渴望”等到的，因为他们只会等待。他们始终没能意识到这个道理，因此最后都徒劳无功。
（引经据典的用心可嘉，但是却未能共冶一炉，最后所谓的智慧和道理也就难以清晰开示，读完懂了要找无牛的大树下遮荫。）

I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet.
